Fluke is a heartwarming and emotional drama film released in 1995 starring Matthew Modine, Nancy Travis, and Samuel L. Jackson. The movie is based on the James Herbert’s novel with the same name. Directed by Carlo Carlei, Fluke tells the story of a successful businessman who dies in a car accident and reincarnates as a golden retriever. The story of the movie is about him trying to regain his family back to his human form.

The movie begins with Tom Johnson (Matthew Modine), a busy executive, who is always on the go, working long hours, and often neglecting his family. He loves his wife Carol (Nancy Travis) and his son Brian (Max Pomeranc) but is always too busy to spend quality time with them. One day, while driving home from work, Tom is involved in a terrible car accident and dies.

The next thing we know is that Tom has been reincarnated as a golden retriever. In his new life as a dog, he is adopted by a single mother called Janet (Roz Michaels) and her son, Jeff (Collin Wilcox). Tom, now Fluke, starts to have flashbacks of his past life and remembers bits and pieces of his human life. He starts to believe that he needs to go back to his old life to make things right.

As Fluke makes his way back to his old family, he meets a stray dog named Rumbo (Samuel L. Jackson) who becomes his faithful companion in his journey. The two dogs have their own unique chemistry, and the scenes with the two of them are some of the funniest and most heartwarming moments in the movie.

Fluke eventually finds his way back to his old house, but Carol and Brian do not recognize him as Tom. However, as the days go by, Fluke exhibits behaviors that remind Carol of Tom. She becomes intrigued by Fluke's actions and starts to believe that there is something special about this dog that reminds her of her husband.

Throughout the movie, the audience is taken on an emotional journey as Fluke tries to reconnect with his family, and as his family starts to realize that something about Fluke is unique and otherworldly. The movie highlights themes of loss, love, family, and the importance of cherishing the moments we have with those we love.

The special effects and makeup used to transform Modine into a dog are impressive for the time, with the dog's reactions and movements looking realistic. The movie also uses a unique camera angle for some of the scenes, showing things from Fluke's perspective, giving the audience a glimpse into what it would be like to experience life as a dog.

The acting in the movie, especially by the dogs Fluke and Rumbo, is superb. Matthew Modine delivers a great performance as Tom/Fluke, capturing the essence of each character's personality. Nancy Travis portrays Carol's emotions realistically as a mourning wife who has to face the reality of losing her husband while dealing with the possibility of supernatural occurrences.

In conclusion, Fluke is a heartwarming and emotional movie that manages to convey the importance of family, love, and cherishing the moments we have with our loved ones, even when we take them for granted. It's a movie that both kids and adults can enjoy with a great soundtrack, impressive special effects, and superb acting.
