The Game is the CW comedy spin-off of Girlfriends that follows the life of Melanie Barnett (Tia Mowry), a first year medical student who gave up on her admission to the prestigious Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Against her parents' wishes, Melanie decided to put her life on hold to be with her boyfriend Derwin Davis, who is moving to San Diego to become a first-year rookie player on the fictional football team the San Diego Sabers. Though the life sounded easy and glamorous, it quickly proves to be otherwise, as her fiance cheats on her with a pop star. Melanie calls off the engagement and breaks up with him, and now is on her own in a new city and has to find herself and her path. Derwin has to learn his lesson while trying to hold it together as a hotshot young wide receiver. Melanie finds friendship in the QB's mother Tasha Mack, and the wife of Saber's captain, Kelly Pitts. Tasha is concentrating on getting back in the dating game and building her career, and it leaves her star QB son Malik without her motherly advice. Last week, the football-centric sitcom The Game switched channels from The CW to BET. While the show hasn't resurfaced online (yet?), The Game is enjoying better ratings since making the switch.
