Memphis beat is the new genre bending cop show on TNT starring Jason Lee, fresh off his "My Name Is Earl" success, and produced by Hollywood heavy-hitter George Clooney. This musically influenced detective show takes a new spin on an old genre by having the lead role be a comical light-hearted cop instead of a serious "Dirty Harry" type. Jason Lee plays Memphis Tennessee born and raised Detective Dwight Hendricks, a music loving fun guy, with a close relationship with his mother, and a laid-back approach to the law that troubles his new boss Lieutenant Tanya Rice (Alfre Woodard). Though new to the cop genre, Lee was more than happy to shave his "Earl" Mustache, grow some slick sideburns, and jump on board what he called a "unique package". Though the show has deep roots tied with Memphis and blues culture, it is shot in New Orleans for tax purposes. MORE
