The Wonder Years

The Wonder Years is a dramatic comedy on ABC that centered around the adolescence and coming to age of Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage) in the late 1960s. The show opens with Kevin entering his junior year in high school with best friend, Paul Joshua Pfieffer (Josh Saviano), and eventual girlfriend, Winnie Cooper (Danica McKellar). The three struggle to navigate the journey from teenager to adult, combating all kinds of friendship and relationship issues. Although earlier episodes mostly focus on Kevin's home life with his stay-at-home mother Norma (Alley Mills), Korean War vet father Jack Arnold (Dan Lauria), hippie sister Karen (Olivia d'Abo), and older brother Wayne (Jason Hervey), the show slowly began centering around dating and friendship problems. The Wonder Years is well-known for its theme song, a cover of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends" sung by Joe Cocker. Created by Carol Black and Neal Marlens, The Wonder Years ran from 1988-1993. During that time, it won an Emmy, a Peabody Award, and numerous other nominations and awards. The series has never been released on DVD due to the cost of music rights. The series featured songs from major artists like Jimi Hendrix, The Byrds, Bob Dylan, and John Lennon.
