The Commitments

The Commitments is a 19981 dramatic comedy film that is an adaptation of a novel with the same name written by Roddy Doyle. It was directed by Alan Parker and written by Dick Clement, Ian La Frenais and the original writer Roddy Doyle. The film was produced through production companies in Ireland, the United States and the UK. The film was shot on location in Dublin. The plot follows Jimmy Rabbite (played by Robert Arkins), an unemployed Dubliner whose life dream is to manage the world's greatest soul band. Inspired by such soul legends as Otis Redding, James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Wilson Pickett, Jimmy decides to hold auditions for his band at his parent's house. From these auditions he organizes a group of fellow unemployed young musicians and one veteran musician known as Joey 'The Lips' Fagan.
