Peter and the Wolf is a 2005 Academy Award winning short film. The movie, directed by Suzie Templeton, uses state-of-the-art digital technology, stop motion animation and a new orchestral recording to retell Sergei Prokofiev's classic fable about a magical world in which little boys can find the courage to overcome their fears and the dangers that surround them. The film returns the well-known story to its Russian origins, but instead of an idealized rural past, it places the characters in a modern setting amid glum, drab, rundown shacks and tattered forests, a grim vision of a post-Soviet Eastern Europe complete with gun-toting thugs. The nearby village appears as a rundown, dismal outpost. Within this sadness and gloom, Peter is able to find wonder and joy in life by unlocking a secret garden where he and his friends, the bird and the duck (both crippled and unable to fly), are able to play and forget the misery that surrounds them.MORE[EDIT]
