Kolchak: The Night Stalker is a supernatural thriller TV series developed by ABC based on Jeff Rice's The Kolchak Papers that follows Carl Kolchak, a newspaper reporter often taking on the investigations of crimes with the unusual causes, crimes that typically involve fantastical creatures such as vampires, werewolves, and aliens. Bitter, wisecracking, and a bit on the down side of luck, Kolchak has a penchant for copping an attitude towards authority and a like for straw hats. It seems that Chicago has a dark underbelly beyond the typical political, societal, and criminal news as he takes on cases involving doppelgangers, witches, pacts with Satan, a headless horseman, and a killer android. He's helped by his slightly supportive and cantankerous editor Tony Vincenzo (Simon Oakland), elderly advice columnist Emily Cowles (Ruth McDevitt), and the morgue attendant Gordy ÒThe GhoulÓ Spangler (John Fiedler).
