8 Simple Rules

8 Simple Rules (formerly known as 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter) is a sitcom originally airing on ABC from 2002 to 2005. It starred John Ritter as Paul Hennesy, a sportswriter living in Detroit with his wife, Cate (Katey Sagal). Cate convinces Paul to return to nursing to spend more time with their three children Bridget (Kaley Cuoco), Kerry (Amy Davidson), and son Rory (Martin Spanjers). Paul starts writing a new advice column about the stresses of raising a family and working. Paul's teenage daughters are dating and he uses the "8 simple rules" for any would be suitors which is where the series gets its name. The second season of the show was marred with the real-life death of star John Ritter. The decision was eventually made to continue the series to a third season and shift the focus onto cousin CJ (David Spade) and grandfather Jim (James Garner).
