The Hitchhiker

The Hitchhiker is a mystery series that aired on HBO and was created by Richard Rothstein and Lewis Chesler. An anthology series similar to the Twilight Zone or HBO's Tales from the Crypt, each episode of the Hitchhiker featured a different twisted story line. Typical episode plots dealt with the dark side of humanity and the mysteries of the human spirit. Other than the Hitchhiker (Nicholas Campbell and later Page Fletcher), whose character acted as bookends to every episode, the show featured no other recurring characters. Many actors got their start as guest stars on this series, and notable celebrity stars include Kirstie Alley, Gary Busey, Helen Hunt, Gene Simmons, Bill Paxton, and Virginia Madsen. The Hitchhiker ran on HBO from 1983 - 1987 and on USA from 1989 - 1991. It was filmed in Toronto, Vancouver, and Ontario in Canada, and also some parts of France.
