The series presents an engaging blend of history, adventure, romance, and time-traveling intrigue, making it a gripping watch. If you are a fan of fantasy and science fiction, this show is worth giving a shot. The series, based on Karl Alexander's 1979 novel of the same name, also made its way onto the silver screen before transforming into this engaging television series.

The highly-engaging narrative of Time After Time revolves around the adventures of the iconic 19th-century science fiction writer, H.G. Wells, portrayed by Freddie Stroma, known for his works like "Harry Potter" and "Game of Thrones." Unlike the books he's famous for, he is a man rooted in reality. But his perspective changes dramatically when his invention, a real-life time machine, gets stolen.

The thriller unfolds when a surgeon named John Stevenson, incarnated by Josh Bowman from "Revenge," with a hidden identity as the infamous serial killer Jack the Ripper, cunningly commandeers Wells' time machine. Hoping to escape the law enforcement closing in after his gruesome crimes in London, he finds an escape route in the opportunity that the time machine provides to him.

Unwilling to let the dangerous murderer loose in a different era, the courageous Wells bravely steers his way to modern-day Manhattan in pursuit of the savage criminal. Thus, the thrilling chase begins, setting the tone for the entire series. The story explores how Wells, a man of the past with Victorian-era principles, adapts to and navigates the complexities of the 21st century. It's a delightful paradox to witness, rife with humor, astonishment, and a fair bit of social critique.

Endeared to us even more as he wrestles with the ethical and moral issues of this new world, Wells makes a determined attempt to reign in the notorious Jack the Ripper. He is joined by Jane Walker, played by Genesis Rodriguez, a museum curator in today's New York City with expertise in various historical periods. Jane becomes an ally and romantic interest for Wells, aiding him in his mission while illuminating the marvels and horrors of the 21st century.

The series promises ample thrills and spills as it unfolds across time and space, making the audience members time-travelers themselves, vicariously living the chase. As the story progresses, the characters evolve and strive to strike a balance between their true nature, historical ethos, contemporary settings, and the need to stop a ruthless murderer.

The casting for Time After Time is commendable and punctuates the series' entertainment quotient further. Stroma's dialed-down, understated performance as Wells is impressive, along with Bowman's charismatic and scary portrayal of Jack the Ripper. Genesis Rodriguez brings a sense of freshness and gutsiness to the series, adding some much-needed female power, warmth, and modern-day perspective.

Additionally, the theme-laden narrative resonates throughout the show and touches on various contemporary issues resonating today. It delves into themes such as technology's power, progress and its consequences, ethics, and moral compass in a rapidly changing world.

The series is deftly helmed by Kevin Williamson, known for his notable contributions to the thriller genre with movie masterpieces like "Scream" and popular TV shows like "The Vampire Diaries." His flair for thrills, suspense, drama, and the macabre is evident in the riveting narrative and pacing of Time After Time.
