Baby Boy stars R&B artist Tyrese Gibson as a 20 year old boy named Jody. The movie is written and produced by John Singleton. Baby Boy is said to be the sequel to Boyz n the Hood which was also produced by Singleton. Jody lives with his mother Juanita played by Adrienne Johnson. The two live in a rough neighborhood in Los Angeles. Jody is living the single life with no intentions of growing up until he has no other choice but to. Jody has two children. He has a son by his girlfriend Yvette which is played by award winning actress Taraji Henson. He also has a daughter with another girl named Peanut. Even though he is in a relationship with Yvette, he still continues to see and have sexual relations with Peanut. Rodney, played by Snoop Dogg, is Yvette's ex-boyfriend. He was released from prison. Rodney's rude behavior towards her and her son leaves Yvette feeling scared. Rodney learns of Jody and sets out to find him. He has multiple attempts of killing Jody but isn't successful. Sweet Pea, Jody's friend, eventually kills Rodney himself. Marvin, Juanita's boyfriend, finds Jody with a gun about to end his own life. Marvin talks him out of it. Jody moves out of his moms house and in with Yvette and their son. By the end of the movie, Jody has became a mature man. He sees that he needs to be the man that he wants his son to be. His friend, Sweet Pea, even wants to change his life. Baby Boy is rated R for violence, language, sexuality, and drug use. Parents are strongly cautioned to monitor that their young children don't see this movie. There are multiple scenes when Yvette and Peanut are seen topless. Sexual situations are throughout the whole movie. The language is to bad for young children as well. There is a scene of rape too. This movie is more for the older age groups of adults. It is very intense in all aspects of the ratings. Baby Boy does have a great plot to it. It is important that viewers realize that Jody was in a bad place in his life. He turned his life around to be a better father to his children. Some viewers may can learn through Jody's positive situation outcomes. The movie shows that no matter where you come from...you can always make yourself a better person.
