Bored to Death

Bored to Death is a comedic show from HBO created by Jonathan Ames and starring Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis, and Ted Danson. The show's main character is Brooklyn, New York based Jonathan Ames (Jason Schwartzman) and is, like the real life counterpart, a writer. At the start of the series, Jonathan's long-term girlfriend breaks up with him because she thinks he drinks and smokes pot too much. Spiraling into depression and alcoholism, Jonathan searches for a way to continue on with his writing and his life. For fun, he takes out an advertisement in a newspaper that he is a private investigator. Although he does not have a license to be a detective, people start to call Jonathan to find their missing friends, test their spouse's fidelity, and solve other mysteries. Jonathan's boring life is about to become wilder than he can imagine. His friends include his best friend, comic book artist Ray Hueston (Zach Galifianakis), and his boss, magazine editor George Christopher (Ted Danson). Celebrity recurring characters and guest stars include Oliver Platt, Kristen Wiig, and Parker Posey. The real Jonathan Ames is an author and has published many novels and graphic novels, such as The Alcoholic in 2008, What's Not to Love?: The Adventures of a Mildly Perverted Young Writer in 2000, My Less Than Secret Life in 2002, and I Love You More Than You Know in 2006.
