The Wire

The Wire is an award-winning HBO drama from creator David Simon that stands as a portrait of the city of Baltimore, an honest and gripping portrayal of a complex city with a great many problems and a few people trying to set things right. The series begins as a police drama, following the lives of a group of detectives and the drug dealers they're working to take down. The detectives amass evidence against the criminals by tapping phone lines and planting video cameras around the city. As the series progresses, more and more aspects of Baltimore are included in the story lines. Season two examines life and corruption among Baltimore port workers, and the next three seasons work in Baltimore politics, public education, and journalism. David Simon received two Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series in 2005 and 2008 for his work on The Wire. The Wire has received tremendous critical acclaim since it concluded in 2008. Among its many accolades, President Barack Obama has named The Wire as his favorite show on television. MORE
