In the gaming community, the E3 Expo is a pretty huge deal.
That goes without saying (so why am I saying it, right?), but as someone who really can’t refer to herself as a gamer, I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I found out I was headed there for a day. The three-day video game convention is nothing short of a headtrip. I’m a total n00b when it comes to gaming and I still couldn’t escape the excitement. Everything impressed me. Everything excited me, especially when I’d see revamped throwbacks of the games I played consistently as a kid. I can’t even imagine what the experience much have been like for the throngs of E3-goers who had been waiting months and months for the unveiling of their most anticipated game or piece of new technology.
Though I did get to try my hand at a new game or two, Clicker’s prime prerogative for
being at E3 was to connect with the Web series community in attendance. Though not something you might initially relate to video gaming, considering the amount of Web shows that center around the gaming world, it’s no surprise that we crossed paths with quite a few. On Day 1, I ran into André Meadows (Black Nerd Comedy) and Beau Ryan (Rad Nerd, and the soon-to-be-released Eight Thirteen) who had some awesome news about a new collaboration (you’ll have to watch the video below to get the whole story).
We also got to talk to Rob Welkner, whose COIN-OP TV co-host Hailey Bright met up with him shorty thereafter to explore the rest of the convention. All of these guys were at E3 not only because of their personal love for video games, but because being in the know about the latest gaming technology is crucial for their series’ success. The second they fall behind, their shows become less relevant. It just goes to show how hard the Web community works to keep you, the users, on top of your game.
Suddenly bummed that you missed the Expo? Don’t stress, just live vicariously through Clicker. Check out the video below, get a glimpse of the E3′s madness, a sneak peek at Nintendo’s 3DS and Sony’s Move, and see what your favorite gaming-centric content creators were looking forward to most and why.
Because we were only there for Day 1 (I don’t just write blogs, you know?), we just missed run-ins with other Web-familiar faces like Hollywood Wasteland director Matt Newcomb who is a video game developer by day (small world!). He may have been there for his day job, but he admits he took some time to show some love for some new zombie/post-apocalyptic games (Fallout: New Vegas, Dead Rising 2, Rock of the Dead) that he could use as inspiration for Wasteland. Newcomb also mentioned bumping into Paula Rhodes and Brett Register of A Good Knight’s Quest, a popular series for The Escapist that centers itself directly around the video game culture. We also hear that we missed some representation from The Guild. So many gaming-friendly Web series’, so little time. We wish we could have caught up with them all, but there’s always next year!
