Where to Watch Bright

2017

In the alternate universe of Bright, the world is no longer what we know it to be. Instead, it is inhabited by humans, orcs, elves, and fairies that live together in a present-day Los Angeles. Though it may sound like a fairy tale, this society still faces many of the harsh realities that mirror life as we know it. The movie kicks off by introducing us to two L.A.P.D. officers, Daryl Ward (Will Smith) and his orc partner Nick Jakoby (Joel Edgerton) who exist in this alternative universe. The story starts with Ward returning from an injury and being paired up with the first-ever Orc police officer Jakoby. Their partnership isn't the greatest, and they both prefer working separately from each other. However, circumstances are about to change as they stumble upon an unusual incident. While on patrol, they encountered Tikka (Lucy Fry), a young elf who stumbled into their vehicle with a magic wand. The wand has been searched for unremittingly by everyone, including criminal underground groups, corrupt law enforcement authorities, and even the FBI. Tikka had stolen the wand from her corrupted sister, and its magic could change the fate of the Bright universe. Ward and Jakoby find themselves at the center of the struggle to take charge of the wand due to their access to the L.A.P.D. system. The two officers have to survive the night, fighting their way through various dangers while protecting Tikka and keeping the wand from falling into the wrong hands. Between the crooked cops and corrupt elves, the story takes unanticipated turns with Will Smith portraying an officer trying to regain his confidence and self-worth. Joel Edgerton plays a conflicted character, straddling the world of the Orcs and humans whose allegiances are put to the test. While on this journey, both Ward and Jakoby come to realize that Tikka is the key to their survival in a world that is becoming explosive. Along the way, the two find themselves caught up in different situations, each one becoming riskier than the last. From encounters with Latino gang members, specialized cultists, and corrupt cops, the plot thickens, and the action never stops. Even as they navigate through the obstacles in front of them, something even larger becomes apparent - the government is also involved in tracking down the magical wand. The movie does an excellent job in character development, revealing their past to show how these officers fit into the bigger picture of the movie. The relationship between Ward and Jakoby is compelling, as they slowly build trust in each other as they find common ground. The cast's actions, emotions, and behaviors are genuinely authentic and justified, making the plot more believable. Bright is an action thriller with a unique concept that offers a vibrant world of fantasy in a present-day setting. The visual ambiance of the movie deserves recognition as they immerse the audience in fantasy yet relatable to a contemporary world. Along with the enthralling storyline, the film offers well-choreographed action scenes and a bit of humor to keep the audience entertained throughout. In conclusion, Bright is an excellent movie that stands out from the rest due to its genre crossover. It is a multifaceted story with multiple layers that offers something for everyone, blending genres in a way that makes sense. Will Smith adds his usual appeal and wit, while Joel Edgerton offers a unique twist on what it means to be an outcast. Overall, the entire cast and crew did an excellent job of bringing this alternate universe to life on the big screen, and I highly recommend the movie to anyone looking for an engaging, action-packed adventure.
