Transamerica

Transamerica is a beautiful, melancholic movie that tells the story of Bree, a transgender woman living in Los Angeles, whose world is turned upside down just a week before she is scheduled for gender reassignment surgery.

Bree lives a quiet, restrained life as a trans woman, working as a voice coach and diligently saving up for her surgery. However, she receives an unexpected phone call from Toby, a young man living in New York City who claims to be her son.

Bree does not want anything to do with Toby, who was a result of a brief fling that she had with a woman several years ago. However, Toby is in trouble and needs help. He has been thrown out of his home and is sitting in jail with no one to turn to. So, Bree reluctantly flies to New York City to bail Toby out of jail.

The two embark on a road trip back to Los Angeles, with Bree determined to drop Toby off at his stepfather's place and resume her journey to her surgery.
