The Roommate

The Roommate is a 2011 American film about what happens when a person you don't know previously has a violent obsession with you. The movie involves a girl named Sara who is starting her freshman year of college and is happy about having a roommate to spend the year with. She meets a girl named Tracy, an adorable guy named Stephen, and her roommate Rebecca. In the beginning, Sara and Rebecca's friendship blossoms and they realize how much they have in common. Rebecca has never had a sister, and Sara tells her about how her sister Emily died when she was nine and shows her the tattoo of her name on her body. As time goes on, Rebecca becomes even more infatuated with Sara and now has the goal of doing whatever it takes so that no one will take her and she will have her all to herself. Rebecca attacks Tracy in the shower and threatens to kill her unless she leaves Sara alone, and she obeys by moving to another dorm because she is terrified. Sara's old friend, Irene, offers to move in with Sara, however, Rebecca does not want this to happen and tricks Sara into staying by putting her kitten into the dryer and saying it ran away. Soon, Sara's fashion design professor kisses her and Rebecca is set to get him out of the way, too. She does this by recording their dialogue when she tries to seduce him and makes it appear like he was trying to have his way with her. Rebecca lies to Sara again when she says that she went searching for Sara's kitten and is horribly raped and beaten by some street thugs, but the wounds are self - mutilated. Since Sara feels sadness for Rebecca, she decides to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with her, and during her stay she finds out that Rebecca has not been taking her medication, and that her medication is used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Also, Sara meets Rebecca's old friend Maria, and realizes that she looks exactly like her. Now, Sara is worried and takes Irene's offer. Later that night Rebecca seduces Irene without Irene knowing who she is, and kills her. Rebecca gets a replica of Emily's name tattooed in the same place on her and tells Sara that she can now think of Rebecca as a sister. Horrified, Sara goes to pack her things and realizes that some of the things she had of Emily are missing. One of Sara's ex boyfriends, Jason stops by to slip a note under the door to win back Sara and Rebecca finds it. Rebecca tricks Jason by wearing her Emily's necklace and dyes her hair to look like her. When he falls into her trap, she kills him. Sara gets an emergency text from Irene and tells Stephen that she will be at Irene's place. When she arrives, she finds that Rebecca has her held hostage and explains that she killed everyone so that she can have Sara. Sara apologizes, but Rebecca still plans to kill Irene, however, Stephen comes in right on time to stop Rebecca from killing her. There is a struggle that knocks Stephen unconscious and gives Sara the power to shoot Rebecca. Unfortunately for her, the pistol is empty, and Rebecca tries to even kill Sara. In the end, Sara stabs her and tells her she was never her friend in the first place. Rebecca dies and Sara realizes that she still wants to go to that college, but without a roommate.
