River is a mysterious, mentally unstable young woman who has been subjected to secret Alliance experiments, which have given her extraordinary abilities. The Alliance is desperate to capture her and the secrets she holds. The crew of Serenity soon realizes that River is a ticking time bomb. She knows something that could bring down the Alliance, and they will stop at nothing to get it back.
