Medicine Man

Medicine Man is an American movie about a biochemist that heads into the rainforests of the Amazon to rescue a researcher and eventually learns about a mysterious, natural, healing compound. The movie was distributed by Hollywood Pictures and premiered in the United States in February of 1992. The request of an eccentric researcher working on a cure for cancer sends pharmaceutical biochemist Dr. Rae Crane (Lorraine Bracco) into the Amazon with needed supplies, including a gas chromatograph. When she arrives, she meets the scientist, Robert Campbell (Sean Connery), who attempts to dismiss her. However, since Crane is there to determine if Campbell's research should continue to be funded, she stays. Crane finds out that Campbell is in a race against time to find the cancer cure. Though he has discovered a serum deriving from a native flower, his supplies are getting low. In addition, a logging company is tearing up the Amazonian rainforest to make a road for future development, thus endangering a native village where the flower grows. Though they're reluctant to work together at first, Crane and Campbell decide to join forces, which is good news and bad news. The good news is that the odd couple fall in love, despite the fact Crane still has reservations about his tactics. The bad news is they discover the flowers aren't the main ingredient in the cancer cure; rather, it's an ant native to the area. By the time the loggers reach Crane and Campbell it's too late for both the village and the ants. Medicine Man is directed by John McTiernan and written by Tom Schulman and Sally Robinson.
