Creep is a found footage horror-thriller film that was released in 2014. The movie was directed by Patrick Brice who also played the role of Aaron, one of the two main characters in the film. The other main character, Joseph, was played by Mark Duplass. The movie starts with Aaron, a struggling filmmaker who answers an ad on Craigslist to be a videographer for a day for a man named Joseph. He is asked to come to Joseph's remote cabin in the mountains, where he is supposed to document every moment of Joseph's life for his unborn son. Upon arriving, Aaron realizes that Joseph is an odd and eccentric man, the type of person that makes you feel uneasy as soon as you meet them. Joseph explains that he is dying of brain cancer and wants to make a video diary for his son to watch in the future, and he wants Aaron to help him. From there, the situation begins to escalate tenfold. The first half of the movie is slow but sets the tone for the rest of the film. Joseph is awkward, candid, and creepy, making you feel uncomfortable from the start. Joseph’s behaviour becomes stranger and more erratic with time, and Aaron starts to feel more and more uncomfortable around him. The unsettling atmosphere is heightened by the found footage format, with Aaron's camera following Joseph’s every move. As the movie progresses, Joseph exhibits increasingly bizarre and disturbing behavior, causing Aaron to question his sanity and his reason for staying at the cabin. Eventually, the situation devolves into a game of cat and mouse, with Joseph constantly toying with Aaron and manipulating him in increasingly terrifying ways. The movie's success is due largely to its two lead characters. Both Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass gave solid performances as the two leads in Creep. They were incredibly believable in their roles, and their chemistry was excellent. Mark Duplass, in particular, inhabited the role of Joseph so thoroughly that it was hard to tell where the character ended, and the actor began. He was able to create a complex and nuanced character with depth, and he was both frightening and pitiable. The movie's found footage format was also successful, lending a sense of realism to the film. The viewer feels like they are watching actual footage that someone found, which only adds to the horror. The film is also very well edited, with a few carefully placed jump-scares. The film's ending is shocking and unsettling, further cementing the film as a standout in the found footage horror genre. The pacing of the film was consistently tense and suspenseful, and the climax delivered a satisfying finale. Overall, Creep is a well-written, well-directed, and well-acted horror movie that is worth a watch. The slow-burning storyline, the found footage format, stellar acting, and outstanding editing make for a terrifying movie that will leave you looking over your shoulder even hours after watching it.
