In the year 2017, the world has been transformed into a dystopian wasteland where everyday activities and skills such as martial arts have become new areas of high demand due to violence and crime. Johnson, played by Melanie Griffith, a tough-as-nails rust-mech whose job is to find and retrieve robotic parts for her clients. E. Johnson initially refuses Sam's request for aid in finding Cherry 2000 but she is tempted by the promise of a large payout. In the end, she agrees to lead Sam through the dangerous Zone 7, with the understanding they will share the money and the replacement Cherry 2000. The journey is fraught with close calls, gun fights, and other heroics, as the pair encounter several obstacles along their way.
