Clear and Present Danger is a 1994 action film based on the popular book by political thriller mastermind Tom Clancy. Harrison Ford reprises his role as Jack Ryan from the preceding film, 1992's Patriot Games, and James Earl Jones returns as Vice Admiral James Greer. Greer, a close friend and colleague of Ryan's, learns he has pancreatic cancer and will have to take a leave of absence from his job as Deputy Director of Intelligence for the CIA. Before he leaves, he appoints Jack Ryan as Deputy Director in his absence. With the job, Ryan inherits the responsibility of overseeing an ongoing operation in Colombia, where the CIA is trying to dismantle the drug cartel.
