When a new bee princess, Honey, is born in Sunny Patch, Shimmer discovers from visiting beetle royalty that she may be princess. She learns the story of a long lost jewel-beetle princess who was carried away on the wind. Told that she can find out for sure if she attends the Big Beetle Ball in Mushroom Glen, she begs her adopted parents Miss Spider and Holley to let her attend. She gets agreement, but when she learns that the ball is too far away to reach by flying, help arrives in the form of an old friend. Together, Shimmer and her adopted siblings Bounce, Squirt, as well as the frog Felix, learn that you don't have to be true royalty to feel truly royal.
