Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete is the feature-length, computer-animated film directed by Tetsuya Nomura and Takeshi Nozue, and produced by Yoshinori Kitase and Shinji Hashimoto. The feature film delves into the famous Final Fantasy VII universe, presenting a unique narrative that serves as a sequel to the original 1997 video game. The film showcases illustrious voice performances by Takahiro Sakurai and Maaya Sakamoto, who complement an already enchanting and visually spectacular world.

Set in the futuristic metropolis of Midgar, Advent Children Complete picks up two years after the events of Final Fantasy VII. The citizens of Midgar and the planet are trying to rebuild after the defeat of the corrupt mega-corporation, Shinra Inc., which had drained the planet's life force, called Mako, for energy. The defeat of Shinra marks a victory for the rebel group AVALANCHE, led by Cloud Strife, the stoic and spiked-hair protagonist, voiced skillfully by Takahiro Sakurai. However, complete evacuation to another city called Edge hasn’t solved all problems. A mysterious and deadly disease known as Geostigma is spreading.

The protagonist Cloud, now a delivery boy and living in solitude, is drawn back into action as he encounters menacing black cloaked figures, characterized by silver hair and a solitary wolf emblem who are wreaking havoc. As problems persist, Cloud must confront his past, deal with present threats, and make consequential choices about his future. The appearance of Maaya Sakamoto as Aerith adds another layer to the story, providing much-needed emotion and context to Cloud’s personality and decision-making.

Advent Children Complete allows hardcore fans and newcomers alike to immerse themselves in extravagant and meticulously animated action sequences that are a staple of the Final Fantasy series. The film retains the essence of the game, staying true to the aesthetics. The city scape, the iconic characters, and the broad, threatening swords – they all reflect the game's atmosphere. Creating a visual spectacle that is not only eye-catching but also respectful to the original game's roots.

The encompassing narrative is built upon themes of regret, forgiveness, the concept of home, and redemption. This story driven by Cloud’s character arc takes the audience on a deep emotional journey through his struggle with guilt over past actions, constant self-doubt, and his fight against perceived helplessness. It beautifully captures how a hero, burdened by his past, attempts to save his world even when battling personal demons.

The dynamic duo, Takahiro Sakurai and Maaya Sakamoto seamlessly bring their characters to life giving them depth and making them more relatable. Sakurai’s performance as Cloud, effectively portrays the character's emotional struggle and growth throughout the narrative. Sakamoto’s portrayal of Aerith adds a level of gentleness and sensitivity which is integral to the overall progression of the story. Their expressive voice acting is further supported by the film's richly textured soundtrack, which thoroughly nuances and accentuates the emotional beats of the narrative.

Nomura and Nozue, the movie's co-directors, do a remarkable job of simultaneously catering to the longstanding fans of the saga whilst also appealing to new viewers. They ensure that the movie can be appreciated by anyone who relishes a good post-apocalyptic storyline filled with emotion, depth, action, and characters that resonate.

In summary, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete is a visual masterpiece that elevates the game's storyline by introducing new and complex themes into its narrative. Its stunning animation, engaging plot, and memorable character development take the audience into the rich universe of Final Fantasy VII while remaining accessible, even to those unfamiliar with the game.
