Lightning McQueen and company are back in Disney Pixar’s box office smash Cars 2. Through their various adventures the animated talking cars in Radiator Springs teach us life lessons, and how we all can be better people. The film begins with the British spy car Finn McMissile covertly sneaking into the world’s largest untapped oil reserve and with protagonist Lightning McQueen returning to his home in Radiator Springs to be reunited with his unique group of friends. Before long McQueen is challenged by the formula one Italian race car Francesco Bernoulli to compete against him in the World Grand Prix race in Tokyo, Japan sponsored by green power advocate Miles Axlerod. McQueen accepts the challenge and accompanied by his friends from Radiator Springs he heads to Tokyo. Little does McQueen know that he is walking into pure danger as the nefarious “lemon” cars that control the world’s oil supply are planning to attack the green power sponsored World Grand Prix, and protect the money they have invested in oil market. Finn who is attending the World Grand Prix to spy on the “lemon” cars mistakes McQueen’s best friend Mater for an American spy, and when Mater and McQueen learn of the “lemon” cars cynical intentions they take it upon themselves to help Finn save the World Grand Prix and the future of green power. The film boasts an all-star voice cast, starring Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen, Larry the Cable Guy as Mater, Michael Caine as Finn McMissile, John Turturro as Francesco Bernoulli, Eddie Izzard as Miles Axlerod, and Thomas Kretschmann as Professor Zundapp. Other noticeable voice features include Bruce Campbell as Rod Redline, Bonnie Hunt as Sally Carrera, Jeff Garlin as Otis, Cheech Martin as Ramone, and Jennifer Lewis as Flo. Cars 2 was a major success for Disney Pixar. The animated film made over 550 million at the box office. However it was surprisingly the first Pixar film to not be nominated for an Academy Award. The film was however nominated for 7 Annie Awards, and a BAFTA, a People’s Choice Award, a Golden Globe, a Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Award, and a Saturn Award. And the film received several positive reviews from critics. It’s truly amazing how many life lessons people could from some as silly as animated cars in what has been called a “kids movie”, but it is so true. Lightning McQueen and company have taught us all the value and power of friendship, and in Cars 2 they teach us why we need to take care of our planet better.
