As Good As Dead

As Good As Dead is a gripping thriller that tells the story of what happens when past misunderstandings and perceived wrongs start to bear the weight of truth, and their consequences cannot be brushed away.

The movie opens with Ethan (played by Cary Elwes), a white-collar businessman, who is abducted outside his office and taken to an abandoned building, where he's tied to a pole and interrogated by a group of three masked men. It becomes apparent that they are not interested in his money, but in his past. Ethan's captors believe that he has played a part in the death of their leader, who belonged to an extremist political group, and they are determined to make him pay.

Meanwhile, we meet two social workers, Helen (Andie MacDowell) and Lucinda (Matt Dallas), who are visiting a low-income housing complex. They are met with hostility from some of the tenants, who tell them that they have been neglected by the government and that things will not change until they take action themselves. The women leave the building upset and energized, and soon become central to the unfolding drama.

Back at the abandoned building, tensions in the group of captors escalate when one of them starts to doubt their actions. The men show him footage of a protest that turned violent, in which their leader was killed, and claim that Ethan was present and responsible.

As the night progresses, Ethan's situation becomes increasingly perilous, as the captors question him about his life and beliefs. He tries to convince them that he had no role in the leader's death, but his captors have no intention of letting him go until they get answers. Ethan's wife and children, who are waiting at home, start to worry when he doesn't show up.

Helen and Lucinda become involved in the drama when they happen upon one of the captors, who is trying to dispose of evidence. They take him to their office and try to get him to reveal what's going on, but he refuses. Meanwhile, the other two captors become aware that their colleague is missing and start to search for him.

As the movie reaches its climax, Ethan's captors are forced to confront their own motivations and the lengths they will go to in pursuit of their beliefs. Ethan's family and his captors collide in a showdown that will determine whether anyone will make it out alive.
