On February 14, 1929, Al Capone's men, disguised as police officers, lined up seven rival gangsters in a Chicago garage and gunned them down with Thompson submachine guns. Known as the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, it cemented Capone's brutal grip on the city's underworld.
