Hellcats

Hellcats follows in the vein of other well known cheerleading stories such as Bring It On and Fired Up!, with one notable difference: Hellcats is not about a high school cheerleading crew but instead about a competitive college crew. The show focus on Marti, a girl with a working-class background who studies pre-law student at a small college in Tennessee. Due to a series of bad circumstances, Marti eventually loses her scholarship that she was dependent upon, and is forced to look for a new way to pay for college or have to abandon her dreams of becoming a lawyer. Enter the Hellcats cheerleading team. Having previous gymnastic experience, Marti decides to try out for the cheerleading team, hoping to snag an open scholarship. Though Marti isn't a prototypical cheerleader, the Hellcats coach is drawn to the unique dynamic that she could bring to the team and offers Marti a spot on the roster. Based upon the book Cheer: Inside the Secret World of College Cheerleaders by journalist Kate Torgovnick, Hellcats features fictionalized characters but holds true to the world of competitive cheerleading.
