Without Consent

Without Consent is a gripping drama from 1994 that tells the story of Laura Mills (played by Jennie Garth), a college student who is raped by her doctor during a routine exam.

The movie is set in a small town in the United States, and we get a glimpse of Laura's life before the tragedy. She is a smart and focused student, dating her boyfriend and living with her parents, who are loving and supportive.

Laura's mother, Barbara (played by Jill Eikenberry), is also a victim of the doctor's manipulation, as he convinces her that Laura is mentally unstable and needs professional help.

The movie does a great job of portraying the emotional toll that rape takes on the victim and the people around them. Laura is understandably traumatized, and we see how the incident affects her relationships with her boyfriend and parents. Her mother, in particular, struggles with guilt and denial, as she tries to come to terms with what has happened to her daughter.

Jennie Garth gives a powerful performance as Laura, conveying the character's pain, anger and determination. Tom Irwin is equally convincing as the manipulative and sadistic Dr. White, who abuses his power in the worst way possible.

The supporting cast is also strong, with Jill Eikenberry bringing depth and complexity to the role of Barbara. She manages to make us feel sympathy for a character who initially seems unsympathetic.

The movie does have its flaws, however. The pacing can be slow at times, and there are moments when the dialogue feels clunky and forced. The ending is also somewhat predictable, as we know that justice will eventually be served.

Overall, Without Consent is a thought-provoking drama that addresses an important issue. It is a reminder that rape can happen to anyone, and that victims should not be blamed or shamed for the actions of their abusers. The movie may be from 1994, but its themes and messages are still relevant today.
