Wasabi

Wasabi is a French action comedy starring Jean Reno, who plays Hubert, a ruthless French cop with a fondness for wasabi. Two American movies he's known best for are The Da Vinci Code and Mission Impossible. Hubert gets in trouble with his boss after he punches the son of a respected member of the community during police business. He has been clashing with his boss for some time over his rough tactics and is ordered to take a two month vacation. His vacation quickly turns into pressing personal matters when he is contacted by an ex- girlfriend’s lawyer in Tokyo. His ex-girlfriend, who was also a spy, left him over nineteen years ago, and he still has not gotten over her. The lawyer informs him that she recently died of cancer and had left him in her will. When Hubert arrives in Japan, he is greeted by his goofy old partner and friend Mumo, (Michel Muller), who immediately wants to pick up where they left off and relive their old times together when they worked for the secret service. After the will has been read, he learns that he had a daughter that his girlfriend never told him about. Yumi (Ryoko Hirosue) is a bubbly carefree girl who happens to hate cops. At 19, she’s just two days shy of turning a legal adult, and Hubert immediately finds himself in the precarious position of looking after his new-found daughter. Yumi’s mother told her that she was raped by her father to keep Yumi from asking questions. Hubert decides to tell her he’s just her legal guardian and keep his true identity a secret so that she doesn’t run away. After visiting the bank to sign for the estate that Yumi’s mother left for her, he discovers that Yumi is about to inherit 200 million dollars of stolen money from a notorious thug in Tokyo. Before long, Hubert, with the help of Rumo, is fighting to keep his daughter safe from the thugs that want her to sign over her inheritance, while taking time out to go shopping and play video games with her teenaged friends.
