Tooth Fairy is a 2010 comedy-fantasy film directed by Michael Lembeck, starring Dwayne Johnson, Ashley Judd, and Julie Andrews. The movie follows the story of a tough, no-nonsense minor league hockey player, Derek Thompson (Dwayne Johnson), who has a reputation for being the Tooth Fairy to his girlfriend's daughter, Tess (Destiny Whitlock), only to accidentally end up being drafted into the real Tooth Fairy world. Derek Thompson is a tenacious, arrogant enforcer for the Portland Winter Hawks, known for his rough style of play, and his brutal hits. He is not known for being particularly warm or friendly, especially to children. This is particularly evident when he dismisses Tess's dreams of becoming a hockey player herself and tells her that there is no such thing as the Tooth Fairy. However, after being forced to step in as the Tooth Fairy for one night, Derek finds himself sentenced to two weeks' duty as a real Tooth Fairy. After receiving a visit from the real Tooth Fairy, played by Julie Andrews, Derek wakes up to find himself with fairy wings and a pink tutu, standing in a bright, fantasy land. Here, he meets the young winged fairies who are in charge of collecting teeth from under children's pillows. Derek is not particularly good at being a Tooth Fairy, and he finds it challenging to adjust to his new reality. He struggles with flying and magic, and his natural tendencies for roughness and lack of compassion are not particularly helpful when dealing with children. Derek is assigned a veteran Tooth Fairy named Tracy, played by Stephen Merchant, to show him the ropes of the Tooth Fairy world. Tracy is a no-nonsense bureaucrat who is equally unimpressed with Derek's lack of enthusiasm and care for the children he is assigned to. As Derek continues to adjust to his new role, he starts to take an interest in the lives of the children who rely on the Tooth Fairy for hope and magic. He becomes particularly drawn to a young girl named Lily, played by Ryan Sheckler, who is struggling to believe in the Tooth Fairy after experiencing some hard moments in her life. Derek sets out to help her regain her faith in magic by doing much more than just picking up the tooth from under her pillow. Tooth Fairy is a feel-good movie, with lots of humor, fantasy, and heart. It is a family-friendly movie that appeals to both adults and children, and it delivers a strong message about the importance of believing in oneself, in others, and in magic. The film also touches on some important themes such as the importance of empathy and caring nature and the intense emotional struggles a child might go through when facing difficult times. Dwayne Johnson is superb in his role as Derek Thompson, eliciting both comedy and heartwarming moments from his character. Ashley Judd brings her charm and warmth as Derek's love interest, Carly, while Julie Andrews invigorates the film with her trademark grace and class. Stephen Merchant also steals every scene he is in with his dry humor, and the young actors, including Destiny Whitlock and Ryan Sheckler, hold their own alongside such high-profile talents. The film's special effects are visually appealing with stunning computer-generated imagery, and the sets are exceptionally well-designed. The director, Michael Lembeck, has done a great job in creating a world that will delight children and adults alike. The fantasy world of Tooth Fairy is full of vivid and imaginative characters and breathtaking scenery that brings the magic and wonder of the story to life. Overall, Tooth Fairy is a charming, lighthearted, and entertaining family movie that has something for everyone. The movie carries a positive and uplifting message, and it is a great way to spend a lovely afternoon with family or friends.
