The Mercy

In 1968, Donald Crowhurst, an amateur sailor from England, entered the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race, a solo sailing competition around the world. He embarked on the journey in a trimaran he built himself, named the Teignmouth Electron. Despite lacking experience, Crowhurst was determined to win the race and collect the £5000 prize money to save his failing business and provide for his family.

The Mercy tells the true story of Crowhurst's fateful voyage, highlighting the pressures and the loneliness of the race, and the psychological toll it took on Crowhurst as he found himself increasingly out of his depth. The film follows Crowhurst (Colin Firth) as he prepares for the race, leaving his wife Clare (Rachel Weisz) and their children behind in Teignmouth, Devon.
