Ann Elliot becomes an unmarried spinster during a time when that carried a negative connotation, placing her in a position as an unattached woman. She had to live with her sister and brother-in-law. When her true love returns from war, he is now in a position of wealth and prestige. Rejecting Ann because she turned him down when he had nothing the plot centers around; both Ann Elliot and Frederick Wentworth rediscovering love and healing from old wounds. The film Persuasion does not disappoint those who are true Jane Austen fans.
