Have a Laugh: Volume 3

Have a Laugh: Volume 3 is a collection of classic Disney cartoon shorts originally released between 1937 and 1961. The movie was released on DVD in 2009 and is a part of Disney's ongoing effort to preserve and share their rich library of animated shorts with new generations.

The DVD contains nine shorts, each ranging in length from six to nine minutes. All of the shorts are presented in their original format, featuring some of Disney's most beloved characters such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, and Chip 'n' Dale. The collection includes both black-and-white and Technicolor cartoons.

The first short, "Hawaiian Holiday" (1937), features Mickey and his friends on a trip to Hawaii where they learn to dance the hula and play island instruments. It features silly gags and slapstick humor, as well as musical numbers with original songs.

Next up is "The Nifty Nineties" (1941), which takes place in the 1890s and features Mickey and Minnie in their more traditional roles as a couple. The short is a musical tribute to the era, complete with vaudevillian performances, old-fashioned clothing, and horse-drawn carriages.

The third short, "Orphan's Benefit" (1941), is one of the oldest in the collection and features a variety show put on by Mickey and his pals to raise money for orphans. The comedic skits include Donald attempting to recite "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and Goofy performing a disastrous magic act.

Following this is "The Band Concert" (1935), a classic Mickey Mouse short in which he leads his own band in a chaotic outdoor concert. The short is notable for its use of classical music, including "William Tell Overture" and "The Storm" from Beethoven's "Symphony No. 6."

The fifth short, "Farmyard Symphony" (1938), features the music of composer Paul Dukas and is one of the rare Disney shorts to use actual animal sounds instead of voice actors. It showcases the farm animals at play, with symphonic sound effects playing along with their antics.

"Donald's Dog Laundry" (1940) is a Donald Duck short in which he sets up a dog wash business with hilarious results. This short features some of Donald's trademark impatience and frustration, as he tries to keep up with demand while dealing with a never-ending cascade of dirty dogs.

"Donald's Vacation" (1940) follows Donald on a disastrous camping trip with his nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. The short is full of misadventures, including Donald's attempts to set up a tent and his battle with a stubborn fish that keeps outsmarting him.

The collection's penultimate short is "Winter Storage" (1949), which features Chip 'n' Dale as they try to stash away their winter food hoard in Donald's home. Donald, of course, is not pleased with the intrusion and attempts to get rid of the pesky chipmunks by any means necessary.

Finally, "Fathers Are People" (1951) is a Goofy short in which he struggles to bond with his son, George. The pair engage in a series of father-son activities, from playing catch to going fishing, but every attempt ends in disaster.

Overall, Have a Laugh: Volume 3 is a great collection of classic Disney shorts that will appeal to all ages. The shorts are charming, funny, and full of heart, and showcase the delightfully whimsical animation style that made Disney a household name. The DVD is a must-have for any Disney fan or lover of classic animation.
