EuroTrip

EuroTrip is a 2004 American teen comedy directed by Jeff Schaffer and co-directed by Alec Berg and David Mandel. Featuring a cast that includes Scott Mechlowicz, Jacob Pitts, Michelle Trachtenberg, Travis Wester, and Jessica Boehrs, the film offers a comedic, adventurous ride navigating the intricacies of travelling and discovering one's path in life.

Scotty Thomas, played by Mechlowicz, is a well-behaved, somewhat naive high-school student about to embark on the adventure of his lifetime after his girlfriend dumps him at his graduation. Nursing a hurting heart, Scott receives a surprising email from his German pen pal "Mike", whom he thinks is a guy. During an drunken night of “karoake-singing” miscommunication with his friends, including Cooper (Jacob Pitts), Scotty discovers that "Mike" is, in fact, short for "Mieke", a beautiful German girl who has been his pen pal all this time!

Mieke had earlier expressed a wish to meet Scott in person, which he had misunderstood and rebuffed, thinking she was a guy taking undue liberties. Once Scotty realizes his terrible mistake, he’s also informed that Mieke has blocked his email, harshly cutting off all connection. In a moment of impulsive decision-making fueled by a newfound crush, his broken heart, and an emotionally charged rendition of ‘99 red balloons’, Scotty decides he must travel to Europe and mend his broken ties with Mieke.

Accompanied by his friends Cooper, their under-aged, over-intelligent friend Jamie (Travis Wester), and Jamie's twin sister Jenny (Michelle Trachtenberg), their journey takes them across the entire European continent. Setting foot in the nerve center of youth tourism, they experience London's raucous pub culture, France's bewitching romanticism, Eastern Europe’s eccentricities, and the ever-fascinating secrecy of Vatican City. As they navigate these diverse lands and cultures with just backpacks and a thirst for adventure, viewers are treated to a wild, humorous, and heartwarming road trip with the foursome.

Along their unique voyage, Scotty and his friends meet a multitude of colorful characters played by a host of renowned actors. Matt Damon make a cameo appearance as a punk musician in one of the film's most defining sequences, while Molly Shannon and Jeffrey Tambor also offer their comic expertise.
