Of course, the names of the characters are different, with the main character being just an everyday New Yorker trying to get by. David Kolowitz works in a machine shop but has dreams of making it as an actor. He finally joins an Off-Broadway theater and acquires a stage name. Though he lacks some natural talent, he perseveres and on opening night impresses with his quirky sense of humor.
