Where to Watch Chernobyl: Men of Steel

Chernobyl - for most it is an image of death and disaster, but a few people still call it their home. Even though it was the site of the greatest disaster in the history of nuclear energy, it was only a few months after the disaster before individuals began to return to the barbed wire-enclosed area. They did so illegally to live again in their family homes, passed down from generation to generation. They were called self-settlers - people who began to live according to their own laws on radioactive land in a closed zone where permanent settlement permits are not issued. Thirty-four years have passed since then - According to various estimates, there were initially between 1,600 and 3,000 of them. Today it is only a few dozen survivors. These are elderly people, struggling with numerous illnesses, difficulties in moving around and lack of family. In 2020 alone, five of them died, and with this trend, in a few years there will be almost no one left.
