Where to Watch Adams Apples

2011

Created and directed by Shirley Frimpong Manso and produced by Ken Attoh, Adams Apples is a 10-chapter movie series about the lives of the Adams women. Each chapter represents a different film, all of which were released periodically until the final chapter in February 2012. The movies/chapters center around Mrs. Adams (Anima Misa Amoah), who is the widow of a former diplomat in Ghana. Her daughters, Baaba (Yvonne Okoro), Jennifer (Jocelyn Dumas) and Kukua (Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku) are in their thirties, and each have their own personal and professional struggles that they are going through in modern-day life, being a middle-income family in Accra. Beginning with Chapter 1, it becomes clear that the lovely Mrs. Adams is a complex and complicated woman who no doubt is not finished in her journey of love. Her daughters each struggle with their own complications, whether it be in love or struggling through a messy divorce or a precarious situation in the workplace. As the chapters unfold, so do many of the family’s secrets. There seems to be no end to the skeletons in the Adams’ closet, and each woman is forced to face her own mistakes as well as deal with the mistakes of her relatives and the impact that they have directly on each other’s lives. The men in these women’s lives (played by John Dumelo, Kweku Sintim Misa and Ajetey Anang) are constantly being ping-ponged back and forth with each unearthed secret and lie. Nothing stays buried forever, and marriages that are on the mend are quickly shot back to the breaking point. The Adams women love fiercely and fight with each other almost as viciously as they fight for each other. Thick or thin, love or loss
