The small town of Ascension trembles in the shadow of a long-dormant volcano when a formidable earthquake causes an eruption. As scientists head towards the molten slopes, gaping maws in the region reveal evidence of something else...

It is only when darkness falls around the valley and piercing screeches echo in the night that a centuries-old, subterranean creature breaks free in a black cloud of fire and ash. Armed with the best weapons they can find, a small band of rescuers prepare to risk their lives and fight the beast to save the town from destruction.
