Outpost: Black Sun

Outpost: Black Sun is a horror-thriller film directed by Steve Barker and released in 2012. The movie serves as a sequel to the original Outpost film, featuring a whole new cast of characters and an entirely new storyline. Despite being a stand-alone movie, it still contains enough elements from the previous film that fans of the original will have no problem jumping right into the action.

The first half of the movie serves to introduce the characters and set up the story. The team begins to uncover evidence of Nazi experiments and are shocked to find that some of the dead soldiers are still walking around. Things take a turn for the worse when a group of mercenaries led by an enigmatic figure named Klausener (Michael Byrne) appears. They are after the Occult Engine to use for their own purposes and have no qualms about killing anyone who gets in their way.

From there, the movie shifts into full-on horror mode. The tension and suspense build as the team tries to survive against the undead soldiers and Klausener's mercenary army. The action scenes are well-staged, with plenty of gunfire and explosions, but it's the horror elements that really steal the show. The undead soldiers are well-designed and genuinely scary, and the way they move and attack is both creepy and visceral.

One of the things that sets Outpost: Black Sun apart from other horror movies is the way it incorporates real-world history and mythology. The Occult Engine is based on a real device that the Nazis were supposedly experimenting with, and the movie takes some creative liberties in imagining what it could have been used for. There are also references to ancient Germanic and Nordic mythology, which adds a whole new layer of depth to the story.

The acting in Outpost: Black Sun is solid across the board. Catherine Steadman gives a strong performance as Lena, a scientist who has to get her hands dirty in order to survive. Richard Coyle is also excellent as Wallace, the grizzled soldier who has seen too much death and destruction. The supporting cast is also good, with Ali Craig standing out as the tough-as-nails soldier Mac.

Overall, Outpost: Black Sun is a thrilling and suspenseful horror movie that combines action, history, and mythology into one exciting package. While it may not be for everyone, those who are into horror movies with a military or historical bent will find plenty to enjoy here.
