Upbeat actor Jean-Michel steals a briefcase containing a necklace and a gun on a whim, but when a racist cop confronts him, he panics and shoots. Amidst lockdown and race protests, he spends his days with Audrey, a street photographer, trying to sell the necklace so they can escape New York. But the media catches up with him, and as he is painted as a Black hero and villain, in this whimsical nod to Jean-Luc Godard's "Breathless", Audrey questions how far commitment and allegiance can go.
