Mindhorn

Mindhorn is a British comedy film that was released in 2016. The movie follows Richard Thorncroft (played by Julian Barratt), an actor who was once famous for playing a detective named Mindhorn on a popular 1980s TV show. However, after the show was cancelled, Thorncroft's career went downhill and he became a washed-up actor who struggles to find work.

Simon Farnaby is also great as Clive Parnevik, Thorncroft's former stuntman and current rival, who serves as a foil for the protagonist.

The supporting cast is equally strong, including Essie Davis as Patricia Deville, Thorncroft's former girlfriend and co-star, who is now a successful actress in Hollywood. Steve Coogan also makes an appearance as Peter Easterman, the TV executive who cancelled Mindhorn and who Thorncroft blames for ruining his career.

The film has a lot of fun with its concept, as it plays with the conventions of detective stories and cop shows. The character of Mindhorn is a cross between Sherlock Holmes and Dukes of Hazzard's Bo and Luke, and the film's action scenes are delightfully cheesy and over-the-top. However, the comedy is also rooted in character, as we see Thorncroft struggling with his fading looks, his unhealthy lifestyle, and his resentment towards those who have surpassed him in life.
