Maria Full of Grace

Maria Full of Grace is a dramatic film about a young Colombian girl who becomes a drug mule and gets caught up in the world of illegal narcotics dealing. Before she became involved in the drug trade, Maria was working in a sweatshop. All the money she made went to support her family. She gets pregnant after a rape. Maria’s boss treats her horribly as well. Fed up with the conditions in her life, Maria quits her job and heads to Bogota with the dream of finding a better life. On her way to Bogota, Maria runs into members of drug cartel. They offer her money to swallow drugs and fly into the United States, effectively becoming a drug mule. Maria is worried but she can’t turn down the money that they are offering her, so she agrees to do it. Maria’s pregnancy becomes a great cover for her activities. She is able to avoid x-ray machines at the airport and only needs to submit to being patted down. When Maria arrives in the United States, the members of the cartel pick her and a couple other drug mules up. They are taken to a hotel room where they are held until they pass the heroin pellets that they have swallowed. One of the other girls has a pellet explode inside of her and she starts to die. The cartel members cut her open to get out the rest of the drugs. They cartel members run away. Maria then decides to sell the drugs and use the money to send the dead girl’s body back home to Colombia. She manages to do so successfully. Maria and Blanca, the other surviving drug mule, head to the airport themselves to go back to Colombia. At the last minute, Maria changes her mind and decides she will live in the United States.
