Kiss of the Dragon

What begins as a joint intelligence assignment between China and France ends up becoming a fight for survival as martial arts expert Liu Jian (Jet Li) pulls out all the stops to save Jessica Kamen, an American who is stranded in Paris. This was supposed to be an assignment based on a known criminal who ended up in Paris, unfortunately everything around him begins to unravel quickly and before he realizes what's going on, he is on the run from the Parisian police. Everything rapidly turns into an international conspiracy and Liu Jian has to hide from Inspector Richard and his band of corrupt police officers. In order to stay one step ahead of the rest, Liu Jian must melt into the underworld where drugs and prostitution is rampant. As he investigates further into the actions of his Parisian counterparts, Liu Jian is taking steps to break into the police headquarters where a witness is being held. The final straw is laid out when the visiting police detective witnesses the senseless murder of uncle Tai (a Chinese operative) and the eventual kidnapping of a witness who could blow the whole thing wide open. Jessica Kamen is the witness, who is originally from North Dakota and is forced into prostitution. She is placed on strong narcotics and ends up becoming an addict, but what really keeps her under the gun is the fact that the corrupt Inspector Richard is holding her son hostage. This action packed movie is filmed primarily in Paris and takes us on a ride that winds through the rivers and streets of the city. Jet Li is at his best as he shows off his martial arts skills and even brings in some acupuncture needles to do the impossible. This fast paced movie, directed by Chris Nahon is relatively non stop and gives viewers everything they are looking for in an action packed drama. Tchéky Karyo plays a very convincing bad guy and proves that he has what it takes to pull it off. Look for other named stars like Max Ryan and Ric Young.
