Jeff doesn't believe Karl at first, but soon realizes that there is more to Vanessa than meets the eye. As the movie progresses, Jeff becomes more and more drawn to Vanessa's hypnotic charms. He soon finds himself in a dangerous game of cat and mouse as Vanessa begins to reveal her true identity. Meanwhile, Karl is also hot on Vanessa's trail, determined to put an end to her reign of terror once and for all. The film features some tense and creepy scenes, as well as some interesting twists and turns in the plot. Kristel, in particular, delivers a chilling performance as the seductive and deadly Vanessa. Her screen presence is magnetic and she manages to convey a sense of genuine threat without ever resorting to over-the-top theatrics. Von Dohlen is also solid as Jeff, bringing a good deal of vulnerability and pathos to his role. Sommer, meanwhile, plays Karl with a grizzled determination that is both engaging and entertaining. The film's cinematography and production design are also worthy of note. The movie gets a lot of mileage out of its dark, gothic atmosphere, with plenty of shadowy corners and spooky sets. The score, composed by Anthony Marinelli and Brian Banks, is suitably atmospheric, with haunting melodies that add to the film's sense of dread. Overall, Dracula's Widow is a solid entry in the vampire horror genre. It may not break any new ground, but it delivers plenty of thrills and chills for fans of the genre. Kristel's performance alone makes the film worth watching, as she manages to turn what could have been a one-dimensional villain into a genuinely memorable character.
