Scarlet Letter

The Scarlet Letter was a mini-series that aired on WGBH from March 3rd to March 24th in 1979. It is based on the book of the same name written by Nathaniel Hawthorne about an adulteress in Puritan America. The story was adapted for film by Alan Knee and Alvin Sapinsley. Produced by Rick Hauser and Herbert Hirschman, the second part of the miniseries won the 1979 Emmy for Outstanding Video Tape Editing for a Limited Series or Special. Meg Foster plays the starring role of Hester, the adulteress condemned to wear a scarlet letter "A" pinned to her clothes for the rest of her life to let the world know of her crime. Through a series of trials and tribulations, Hester overcomes the stigma of her trespass to become the first heroine in American literature. The original score for the miniseries was composed by John Morris and the cinematography is by Robert E. Collins. MORE
