Magilla Gorilla

Magilla Gorilla, (voiced by Allan Melvin), the loveable and infamous talking gorilla that pet shop owner Mr. Peebles, (voice by Howard Morris), could never quite seem to sell was created by Hanna-Barbara for Screen Gems and aired from 1963 to 1967. The show, based in Peebles Pet Shop, was the home of Magilla; a hat, bow tie, and suspender-wearing gorilla who spent his days eating bananas in the large picture window overlooking the busy city street. Magilla could be seen from episode to episode relaxing next to the sign offering steep discounts to the would-be buyer of the gorilla. As a rule, he would usually be purchased at the start of the show by some unsuspecting patron and promptly returned with complaints of hi-jinks. Magilla, who couldn't quite seem to keep himself out of trouble long after purchase despite his loveable nature and large heart, would inevitably be returned by the disgruntled customer demanding a refund from the disillusioned Mr. Peebles.
