The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is a 1962 Western featuring the first-ever collaboration between two acting legends, James Stewart and John Wayne, in a film directed by four-time Academy Award-winner John Ford. Stewart plays Ransom "Rance" Stoddard, a prominent United States senator who takes a trip to the small Wild West town of Shinbone to attend the funeral of a local shop owner, Tom Doniphon (John Wayne). The Senator is cornered by a journalist who wants to know the story behind this high-profile politician who has come to Shinbone to bury a nobody. The film then takes place in flashback, to Stoddard's days as a young man and a struggle between Stoddard, Stoddard's ally Doniphon, and a cruel criminal named Liberty Valance. The story that unfolds is an epic full of gunfights, romance, and renegade justice that examines the blurred line between right and wrong.
