The Quiet Man

The Quiet Man is a 1952 American romantic comedy from director John Ford. This film was nominated for two Academy Awards and won the Oscar for Best Director. The Quiet Man relates the story of Sean Thornton (John Wayne), an Irish-born former boxer from Pittsburgh. After nearly killing a man in the boxing ring, Thornton decides to retire from boxing and return to Innisfree, Ireland to reclaim the family farm. He immediately clashes with his neighbor, the brash, loud-mouthed "Red" Will Danaher (Victor McLaglen), but falls deeply in love with Danaher's spinster sister. The lovely Mary Kate Danaher(Maureen O'Hara) captivates Thornton immediately with her beauty and grace, but their romance is threatened by her brother's refusal to sanction the marriage. Their plight seems hopeless until the locals come to their aid with a plan to trick Red into agreeing to the marriage. Will love be able to conquer the obstacles in their way? MORE [EDIT]
