The Burmese Harp is a 1956 Japanese film. The movie was adapted from a children’s novel and takes place soon after World War II. We see Japan’s decimated landscape and cites caused by Allied bombing during the war. The story is about a Japanese soldier named Mizushima. He becomes a harp player in a group of soldiers who are part of the Burma Campaign. They realized that they are being watched by British soldiers. They continue to sing and play music so that the British do not realized that they have been spotted. The British begin singing the same melody rather than attacking the Japanese.
